An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a formal assessment of the condition of an existing electrical installation. It identifies whether the installation is safe for continued use, highlights any damage or deterioration, and records any work needed to bring it up to current standards.
The inspection covers the consumer unit, wiring, accessories and protective devices throughout the property. Each circuit is tested for safety, including checks on earthing, bonding, insulation resistance and the operation of RCDs and RCBOs. The result is a detailed report classifying any issues as C1 (danger present), C2 (potentially dangerous) or C3 (improvement recommended).
EICRs are required for rental properties under current legislation, and are strongly recommended for homeowners buying or selling a property, or for anyone living in a home with older wiring that hasn't been inspected in the last ten years.
If an EICR identifies C1 or C2 issues, the installation is classified as unsatisfactory and remedial work is required to make it safe. Marsh & Co can carry out EICR remedial works promptly and issue updated certification once the work is complete, so you have a clear paper trail from inspection through to compliance.
